IFTIKHAR MIRZA
PIC has issued the suspected drugs that have killed more than one hundred cardiac patients in Lahore so far. The suspect drugs are Cardiovestin (simvastatin), Alfagril (clopidogrel), Concort (amlodipine), Soloprin (aspirin). The irony of fate is the drug was distributed to the lowest segment of society, the poor people who cannot afford costly medicines, and they suffered deaths before receiving any treatment. It is feared that some substandard raw material has been used at manufacturing stage of medicines by pharmacuetical firms to make some more bucks. Chances are there that the management of Pakistan Institute of Cardiology is hand in glove with substandard and poisonous medicines producers for some monetary benefits, otherwise no one can compromise on the quality of medicine. Resultantly more than 100 poor patients have lost their lives due to criminal negligence of PIC. The PIC should be made accountable for this loss. Moreover, those who have lost lives should be paid compensation at the cost of PIC. A case must be registered against the responsible officials after speedy trial, if found guilty, the should be sent behind the bars for playing with the lives of poor patients.
In Part 1 we discussed the fact that alternative medicine
(so called) was being used in ancient times long before
conventional medicine came on the scene. It is interesting
to note that there were not so many diseases plaguing mortals
in those days. What has caused this never-ending increase of
deadly diseases that wreak such havoc on the body today?
